Online Registration has closed but you can just SHOW UP day of the 5k race at Danehy at 8:30 am to register. The race starts at 9:30 am (not 10 AM). If you are there early enough, snag a free T-shirt with your registration! It’s going to be a beautiful run, entirely on the footpaths at Danehy. Race starts and finishes on the track. Pemberton Market is providing fresh fruit, Trader Joe’s has donated granola bars, BarkTHINS have some treats and Hydrolyte will provide some healthy hydration to all. Please SHOW UP and support FOCA and the Andrea Harvey Fund. Both are 501 C3’s providing scholarships to deserving seniors at CRLS!

I hope all of you were able to enjoy February Break and recharge. I wanted share some of the great news from our Athletic Department. I know that you all like to hear how well our students and teams do. I do want to say thank you to all of you for your support of CRLS Athletics, our student athletes, and your cooperation in recognizing the value interscholastic sport participation has and will have for our students. I have listed each sport from the winter the season, and gave a brief season summary.
Wrestling– Our wrestling program despite low participation numbers, performed at a high level all season long, and into the post season. We had several individuals compete in the Sectional Championships, with Eli Zibello, and Zach Sheerly both winning their Sectional Championships! Zach Donnelley took 3rd in his weight class at Sectionals! In the following weekend, the boys competed in Division 1 State Meet, Zach Shetterly was able to advance to All States. And for the first time in Cambridge High School History, Eli Zibello was crowned a State Champion! He won the 120 lbs. weight class. This past weekend in the All State Meet both Zach Shetterly and Eli Zibello competed well, and despite not winning will be moving on to New England Championships next week.
Boys Basketball– The team finished the regular season 18-2, winning the Dual County League Title for the 4th straight season! Several students have been recognized as league all stars- Hakan West, Aiden Keefer, Jonathan Cenescar, and Khai Smith was recognized as the DCL MVP. The team earned the #3 seed in Division 1 North and will host DCL foe Boston Latin School on Wednesday evening at 7PM.
Girls Basketball– Just barely missing the state tourney with a 9-11 record, the girls battled in every game of the season. Three girls made league All Stars- Maggie Pimlott, Kalkidan Mano and Ella Simonsen
Girls Ice Hockey– They had a tough season in the win column, but the girls fought tough all year despite being overmatch throughout the season. Mary Walsh was named as a League All Star.
Boys Ice Hockey– Finished the regular season 13-6-1, and for the 3rd straight year won the DCL/MVC Tier III League Championship! They received the #3 seed in Division 3 North. They will play Sunday, March 4th at 3Pm at Ryan Rink in Watertown vs, the winner of Northeast Regional/Wayland HS.
League All Stars are Myles Paton, Freddie Gould, Thomas McGaffigan, Anthony Caterina, Barry Walsh.
Boys and Girls Swim and Dive– The team competed tough all season long. Several individuals went on to compete in the North Sectional Meet. From the Girls Team – Miya Duffy competed in the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard Butterfly; Melissa Lui, Piper Larin, Liliana Barkow and Emma Atlas raced in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay. Boys had 2 divers compete in the Sectional Meet, Zakariah Teffahi and Ezra Howe.
Boys and Girls Track and Field-The Boys Track Team just missed taking the DCL regular season title in a 1 point loss to LS in the last meet of the season.
Several students competed in the Division 1 State Meet- Muhammad Abdalla- 55 Meter Dash; Adam Dincher, Peterlee Dorielan, Cheikh Abdoull Naisse- 300 Meter; Antonio Escallon- 1000 Meter; Ethan Rothenberg- 1 Mile; Jeffrey Chen- 2 Mile; Samuel Figaro, Reggie Dessources- Shotput; Andre Colas – High Jump; Zyair Aiguier Bolling (5th place)- Long Jump; 4 X 200 Meter Relay took 4th place.
Girls Division 1 Meet- Phoebe Smith (2nd place) 2 Mile; Kadina Romain (2nd Place) Shotput; Sophie Wright- LongJump
This past weekend at the All State Meet- Phoebe Smith took 9th overall in the 2 Mile; Sophie Wright finished 15th overall for Long Jump; Kadina Romain 16th overall in Shotput; Zyair Aiguier Bolling placed 7th overall in Long Jump
Several students competed in the Divisional State Meet. Phoebe Smith took 3rd in the 2- Mile; Kadina Romain was 5th in the shotput; Zayair Aiguier Bolling was 6th in the Long Jump; Sophie Wright 7th in the Long Jump; the boys 4 x 200 relay team finished 4th.
Fencing– The team has continued to improve each season. This year the team did well at States. Jonas Hansen was épée state champion! Sakib Asfraf, Joe Avin Larkin and Mario Mworka took 3rd place in épée squad championship.
Gymnastics– The team despite low numbers, competed tough all season under the leadership of new Coach Kelsey Horan. The girls worked so hard to improve ll season long. Mary Keegan was recognized as a DCL League All Star.
Cheering– The girls brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the gymnasium this season. They were prepared and ready to represent Cambridge at the Winter Competition in Ashland this past weekend but had to withdraw unfortunately due to injuries.

All student athletes interested in playing a Spring sport at CRLS must register. If it’s your first time registering, you will need your student ID. If you don’t have it, call your Learning Community. Additionally, you will need some basic health insurance information.

We hope to see you this Saturday, January 20th, 5-7:30 pm, at the home of Martha & Tom, 84 Magazine Street in Cambridge. There will be food and drink, silent auction items and a 50/50 raffle! This is an adult only event.

CRLS Looking to Hire Diving Coach Immediately
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS) has an open position for Diving Coach starting immediately for the 2017-2018 winter sports season. CRLS Swim & Diving program has about 70 students and last year had the largest diving team in the state with a 24-student roster, several of whom competed in the state championships. Recent CRLS grad, Gabe Bamforth, a back-to-back state champion, is an All-American and among the top divers in the NCAA competing at Carnegie Mellon. CRLS Diving is an inclusive program with no cuts, no athletic fees for participants, and truly embodies the CRLS motto of “Opportunity, Diversity, and Respect.”
